Jean Prouvé was born on April 8, 1901, in Nancy, France. His father was a mansion builder, and Prouvé spent much of his childhood learning about construction and engineering. He studied at the École de Nancy, where he learned about art and architecture. In 1923, Prouvé founded his own workshop and began designing furniture and objects that were both functional and beautiful.
